Hi,
For those of you who are my regular readers (HAH!) you may or may not know about the surgery. Well, whether or not you do or don't: it's over with. Monday in and Tuesday out. Today I am feeling better. Still sore, and sleeping is tough, but otherwise...back to drinking coffee and eating small healthy meals. My big indulgence is Cappucino gelato from Fresh and Easy (which I do recommend).
I don't regret having this surgery. Yet. I never wanted to have children because I don't really like most of them all that much. I don't even think I liked being a kid too much. It wasn't because I had a bad childhood (I had a great one for the most part) but it's just that I was always bored as a kid and couldn't wait to get older to do the really cool stuff (drive, be in a band, get a boyfriend...etc). So - kids? Schmids.
We'll see how things progress in the pain dept. It is uncomfortable, but with very small incisions rather than a large and horrifying scar, I can't really complain. I guess my biggest enemy (if I have one) is boredom.
But then again: that is nothing new for me. Zzzzzzz

Cook what you got Vol 1, 2
Hi All,
last night produced yet another gem. I am a big fan of the Crock Pot for many reasons - mainly because everything is better when cooked for a long time..spaghetti sauce for example...read one for a new recipe
Steak Stew what you got
Steak meat (I don't even know what I used...it was sirloin steak I think)
Can of chopped tomatoes
Leftover chopped white onion (any will do)
Worchester sauce (I prefer to call this Worse for Wear sauce)
Oregano (from the 99 cents store pack)
Garlic (fresh)
Celery (99 cents store, fresh as all get out)
Carrots (same as above)
Dried leek and shallot spices (from this thing I bought at TJ Maxx Home goods..$3.99)
Red wine (dry is best)(not from the above)
S&P
Turkey gravy packet mix
I browned the veggies and herbs and wine (not the canned toms) with the steak, poured that into the Crock Pot.
Added the canned toms and turkey gravy packet
Mixed it up and set it on Low
Served this over leftover rice pilaf (you can eat it alone or over egg noodles, etc) for lunch today and it was AMAZING
YUM
Love

Cook what you got No. 1
Hi
I have found that as the years go by and I learn more about cooking and eating there are recipes which just sort of happen. This is why I am telling you all about my theory: Cook what you got. Here's a recipe I have tried which was great - and it all started because I didn't want to go buy anything to make, or buy ingredients I didn't have...and I still wanted to cook....
Grilled Fish What You Got
Fresh frozen fish (any kind...doesn't matter) no battered fish, just the actual fish
Mustard seed (this comes in most spice racks most people buy, but they never use)
Olive oil
cumin (you need this. you can get this at any Mexican market or in the Mex section of any market in the little plastic bags for about 69 cents)
S&P
olives (any kind, I used a few Kalamata olives)
capers (bought these at the 99 cents store)
lemon (great if you have it, but not deal breaker)
garlic
I grilled the fish in a grilling pan that is for a BBQ grill. I layered the grill pan with all the veggie-like stuff above. I "marinated" the fish with the lemon, spices and a tiny bit of olive oil.
Grill on decent flame for a about 3 mins watching it all the while.
I served this with:
Stale sourdough bread which I threw in the toaster, then spread with Guldens mustard (Instead of butter..mustard has TONS of flavor and 0 calories)
Some chopped lettuce (any kind) with just a bit of Italian dressing (again: any kind...you can make your own)
Voila! I ate what I had, lo cal, and healthy as all sin.
You can do this too.
Stay tuned for more EWYG recipes soon.
Bueno Suerte!
xoxo

My thoughts on "A Single Man" a film by Tom Ford
This is what blogging is for: opinions, feelings, statements. In this vein I write to you now...
I was deeply moved by this film. Not only does this film have cinematic qualities which I found to be quite beautiful (expectedly so with Mr. Ford at the helm) but because I was surprised at how much it uplifted my spirits even though I had heard that it was a "sad" film. I found this movie to be quite the opposite.
The film, without giving anything away to you , is a dark and bright story of love. Not just among the main character and his partner, but among the world the lead character is finally able to see and feel once he is ready. The love of friends, strangers and life is overwhelmingly profound. I watched this film before I went to bed last night and I am glad that I did, because it brought me a sense of peace in the world that is rare when I awoke to begin my own day. The film brought this to me. Slowly, softly and sublimely.
Bravo Tom Ford - who I now have a great respect for. More so than I ever thought. TF is perfect and prides himself on perfectionism, and I now know why.
Please see it. And my wish for you is that you can walk away with a brighter sense of today. Now. Here. Savor what we have regardless of the news and all the other nonsense we are troubled with which we have no control over all day and every day. See your colors, the things you hear, listen to and smell. Look. Etc Etc Etc
